Southern Gullies project | Hamilton

Is it a Bird? Is it a Plane? No… it’s a mammoth bridge being swung over a gully by a monster crane!

There are a few things we really love around here:

🖤 When a plan comes together.

🖤 Bridges.

🖤 Cranes.

So, imagine the pure joy and raw giddy emotion we felt in the early hours of Monday morning when the first of the two arch bridges were lifted into place on the Southern Gullies project in Hamilton.

Hanging a 110t bridge, 45m out over a gully is not something for the faint hearted. Over the past year we and our geotechnical partners Riley Consultants have been working with CB Civil and Eastbridge Ltd. to bring this beautiful bridge to life.

We worked closely with the project team to design the temporary works for this job, from crane studies and lifting checks, to retaining and temporary support. While there have been a few late nights, seeing this 500t behemoth in action makes it all worthwhile.

The best part, it all happens again in a few weeks for Bridge 2!
