Meet the team - Stephen

A native of Ballygally, NORTHERN Ireland (OMG don’t get it wrong, he gets really annoyed), Stephen Knox is our Construction Manager at Hoffcon.

He studied civil engineering at Edinburgh University in the UK before globe-trotting his way across the world.

He’s done a few things along the road to NZ having played rugby, sailing, golf, a few other sports in a number of countries and even dabbling in live theatre (ask him more about this if you get the chance, those who have heard him sing say he is the songbird of his generation).

Alas, the pull to construction was strong and he worked on his very his first cable stay bridge in Vietnam and got bitten by the big bridge construction bug. In 15 short years, he’s notched up a very impressive CV working on and/or running jobs in Macau, Singapore, Brunei, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.

He is our resident expert for:

🍀 construction methodologies

🍀 stay cable, cast-insitu balance cantilever and segmental bridges

🍀 temporary works

🍀 major project tendering, estimating and programme

🍀 Van Morrison

Eventually he was pulled to the shores of New Zealand by his lovely kiwi wife, Anna.

Now, we all know what you’re thinking, but too polite to ask. No, Stephen is not involved in an underground bare knuckle gypsy boxing club. He refuses to talk about it (something about the first rule...), but the glint in his eye says otherwise.

From the rolling meadows of Northern Ireland to the hustle and bustle of construction in Asia and Australia, you’ll now find Stephen in rural Taranaki yelling at cows, battling paddocks of gorse, jigging and keeping up with three ankle biters.

We are so lucky to have someone with his experience and specialist expertise in the country, let alone on our crew.

Thanks for choosing Hoffcon Stephen, let’s build some cool sh*t!
