On the clock, our guy Tom Armstrong is a Senior Structural Engineer responsible for designing, reviewing, building and inspecting big pieces of infrastructure.
Off the clock, he slips into high vis and overalls as a volunteer member of the Wellington Emergency Response Team (WERT) NZRT-8. These are the guys and gals you want around when things go bad.
This past weekend, he took part in #ExercisePoseidon alongside 140 other emergency hero people who descended on Wellington to take part in a large-scale mock earthquake exercise.
Over a 36-hour period, the volunteers practised providing casualty and animal rescue, high-ropes rescue, reconnaissance, impact assessment and swift water rescue.
Thank you Tom and all the other volunteers who run towards the scary stuff, that most of us would run away from.
