Bridges we love

We’re kicking off a new series where we take a look at some of the cool bridges that our team have been involved in throughout their engineering careers.

First up is the big man himself, David Hoffman. It was really hard for him to narrow it down to just one bridge, but we got there in the end.

SENTOSA BRIDGE | SINGAPORE

“This was one of the most memorable projects I've been a part of - ask any of my team, I reminisce about this one often!

As the project manager for the superstructure, I was responsible for the pre-casting and construction of the bridge superstructure connecting mainland Singapore and Sentosa Island.

Key to the project’s success was the establishment of a shortline precast yard on Batam Island, Indonesia. There we precast a total 136 segments and then barged them to site in Singapore.

Once we really hit our straps, we were stitching together 8 segments a day and we managed to complete the superstructure erection in just 2.5 months, way ahead of schedule.

I’d love to see bridges in New Zealand completed at this speed without compromising quality, safety or blowing out budgets.”

There’s a lot more he’d be happy to yarn about on this one. Ask him, we dare you.
