Hanging out with young people building balloon towers and playing with drones sounds like a pretty fun day at work right?
That's what Dave, Josh and Sarah did recently when they were invited by Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira Incorporated to present at their Tech HUB inspire session.
This is a really cool initiative where the Rūnanga bring together local college students to hear from people working in the tech and digital industry.
We let them take the drone for a bit of a spin and showed them how the data can be used to build 3D models. We also introduced them to Blender, a piece of software we use quite a bit for animation, interactive 3D applications and construction methodology.
Lastly we challenged the kids to plan, draw and build a tower strong enough to hold a can of coke using balloons, paper and straws. Unfortunately Sarah was assigned to help one of the teams and did the opposite by popping their balloon in the dying moments. Soz.
Hopefully we've sparked some curiosity to what a career in the engineering, technology or digital industry could look like.
